Pintor francés. Fue el principal pintor de Francisco I y realizó muchos retratos en pastel a miembros de la corte francesa. Clouet es considerado uno de los mejores pintores de retrato del s. XVI, a la vez que incisivo y delicado en la caracterización psicológica de sus modelos. Sus dibujos son simples, claros y sutiles; sus pinturas son frescas en colorido, discretas en la pose y minuciosas en su ejecución. Durante su vida fue celebrado como el equivalente de Miguel Ángel. Su hijo François Clouet (n. 1515–m. 1572) tomó su lugar como pintor oficial de Francisco I en 1540.
